Here at STANDBY we offer all types of film production, but if there’s something required that’s out of the ordinary we’ll always work with the best in class. So when it comes to aerial filming and using drones we partner up with aerial filming and drone specialists to get the best possible sky-high shots.

How do you know STANDBY PRODUCTIONS?
We first met Simon when working on a Tough Mudder shoot in Dumfries back in 2012 – we were both working for Jalbert Productions who are based in NY.

What have you worked on with STANDBY and why?
So far we have worked with Standby on the Tough Mudder shoots, a feature on the Range Rover Sport 2 with Levison Wood and a DONG Energy film.  It’s always good to see the crew again and work with a creative, experienced and friendly team.

Tell us about what you do day-to-day?
We specialise in aerial filming using drones or unmanned aircraft. So our day to day is developing our systems and skills as well as planning our shoots – there is alot of research around working with drones commercially.  Arranging access, permission and acquiring the appropriate authorisation. We’re an experienced team with technical and creative ability combined with specialist capabilities and approvals.

What projects do you enjoy working on the most?
We value any opportunity to work with a creative team.  We are best suited to working with a small crew in interesting locations.  Its always a great moment when a client comes up with a new idea or shot. Online film shoots seems to offer the most interesting opportunities!

What are your thoughts on Aerial Filming and the fact it’s such a niche industry?
Drone filming is booming at the moment the interest and opportunities are growing exponentially just now.  Whilst it still remains quite niche and specialist we foresee a shift towards drones becoming common tools for film makers.  Its important to use an experienced and indemnified operator who can help you create the visuals you imagine without risking your schedule, budget or crew.

What do you think featuring Aerial shots adds to a film?
Aerial shots are an efficient, effective and affordable way to bring production values, scale and oversight to a film.  They are unrivalled when using as an establishing shot for a location – they give immediate context and setting within a landscape.  Drones are also great for tracking and revealing shots.

What’s next for you?
This month we are working on various TV productions – a combination of single and multi day shoots.  The majority of our work is factual or commercial but this month we will be doing some drama production work too.

Any final thoughts?
Thanks for the opportunity to work with you all – we’re looking forward to the next project!
