STANDBY were recently shooting on location at Warrington Collegiate, working on a new promotional film for the college. Our plans were quite ambitious for the film and involved lining up shots transitioning from subject to subject, so that the film would have a quick, seamless flow to it. It may not sound too tricky, but it involved a serious amount of carefully placed acetate!

The two day shoot began with a pretty early start for the crew, who had to set off at 7.30am to be on location on time. After a much needed injection of caffeine, the day officially began by filming with the Manchester United Soccer School. Following this, we headed over to the Beauty department, where the girls there were learning about Media Make-up and creating fake wounds. We captured some awesome close-ups of these “wounds” that were fantastic, but also slightly stomach-churning!

Our next stop for filming was at the other side of the college in the Performing Arts department, which wasn’t the easiest journey through the halls when we were loaded up with all of our kit! The girls featured here were really great, and even choreographed a piece specifically for the film. However, a slight spanner was thrown in the works when there was an unscheduled Fire Alarm. After this commotion had passed, we finished getting the shots with the dancers and headed to Motor Vehicle engineering, where we were once again meticulous in lining up our shots.

Over the rest of the two day shoot (and several subjects) there were plenty of laughs to be had, and it was fun getting to work with the students who are no doubt the rising stars of tomorrow. Talking about the collegiate over a Costa Coffee (Our base of operations for critical refuelling), we were all incredibly impressed with not only the breadth of the subjects available at Warrington (everything from English to Health, through to Catering), but also with the excellent standard of teaching and the facilities available to students – the Aviation class even included a mocked up plane interior!

All in all it was a highly successful shoot that everyone involved enjoyed being a part of. But why take our word for it – just watch the behind the scenes film above and see for yourself! And after that, why not check out the finished film?
