Green shoots of change

At Standby, we’ve had it with the hot air. That’s why we’re pledging to not only make more films that promote an environmental message, but also make our films in a much more environmentally friendly way. We’re always working to become more sustainable and we’ve made great progress on our journey to net zero, but it’s only the beginning of this wonderful trip of putting our planet first!

“To restore stability to our planet, we must restore its biodiversity, the very thing we have removed. We must rewild the world!”

Sir David Attenborough
A Life on Our Planet, 2020

Standby loves to lead the way, so we’re actively inviting you to imitate us.

Genuinely: join us. Copy us. Do as we do.

We’re thrilled with how many collaborators are already working together with us on this, but it’s only going to work if we get everyone involved.

So get involved.

Committed to the cause with The Wildlife Trust

It’s massively important to look after our local environment any way we can.

That’s why we’ve agreed to donate 1% of our annual turnover to The Wildlife Trusts Lancashire, Manchester and North Merseyside.

This helps with continued restoration and protection of the North’s peatlands. UK peatlands currently store the equivalent of 8 years of carbon emissions and they store twice as much carbon as the world’s forests. The importance of these habitats must not be underestimated.

We’re proud to say that we’ve started our Journey to Net Zero, thanks to a 10 week course run by the Manchester Business Growth Hub. We have lots of work to do, but just like a good adventure, we have taken the first steps. We’ll keep you updated on our journey here.

Completed so far:

  • Sustainability Matrix
  • Aspects & Impacts report
  • Environmental Policy
  • The Standby team are now certified Carbon Literate

We are now committed to:

Lights, camera...
We’re actioning a whole raft of changes on set.

01. Paperless

No more endless printing of call sheets, invoices and production documents. All accounting and documents will be digital.

02. Bottle it

Plastic bottles are banned on set. All crew and attendees to set must bring their own refillable water bottle. Water will be supplied if there’s no tap.

03. Lighten up

All our office bulbs have been replaced with energy efficient bulbs. Lights and computers are turned off when possible.

04. Rehoming

Any props, leftover food or costumes will be donated to food banks or charities.

05. Film your good side

Encouraging all businesses to talk about their own environmental achievements or targets, as well as work with sustainable businesses and promote their work.

06. Supplies

Our office will now use natural and chemical free cleaning products. We also aim to buy any supplies, for shoots or the office, from sustainable suppliers.

“People notice if you care, but they also notice when you’re faking it. We’ll help you make that genuine connection.”
