Last week, STANDBY packed its suitcases and flew over to the German capital to capture the latest Scala Days conference in Berlin, an event that brings together developers the world over to promote new ideas around Scala and related technology. As with our Scala Days shoots in England, Amsterdam and New York, we were there with our frequent collaborators Cake Solutions, one of the sponsors for the event, who had a number of their team giving talks.
We started working with Cake over four years ago and we’ve been producing cracking film content for them ever since. In that time, both companies have gone from strength to strength in their respective industries, with Cake now regarded as one as one of the leading companies in their field, as well as the largest independent Scala world technology specialist in the world.
The conference itself was a hugely impressive event, with well over a thousand people attending over the course of three days to take part in large scale talks, showcases and networking events. As always, STANDBY worked to capture the event’s highlights in the most creative way possible, mixing together real-time and super-slow motion footage, time-lapse and portrait shots.
Another added bonus to the event was that it took place right in the middle of Euro 2016. Rather than being an unwelcome distraction to the event, the football actually helped pull the community together even more, with people who had little interest in football even catching up on the latest games together, cementing the partnerships that exist within the Scala community. Our own directors took some time out from the busy filming schedule to watch England beat Wales on the Thursday, before toasting the win with some well-earned steins.
Some “networking” took place on the final evening in Berlin between the Cake and STANDBY team, as they tried out a few of the cities local bars, before wrapping on the Friday to fly back to the UK. It was a great shoot in a fantastic city, and was a real shame to have to say Guten Abend Berlin – check out our events highlight film above to see what we captured!
