Congratulations are in order here at STANDBY! It has been exactly a year since Jack took on our production role and my goodness aren’t we glad he did… It’s safe to say this year has flown by with many new exciting prospects to look forward to. So whilst we already know what a great asset Jack has been to STANDBY, we have decided in good old fashion to put him on the spot and make him answer a few questions on his experiences here so far.
How did you first start working at STANDBY?
I was introduced to STANDBY at the end of my internship with Access Advertising. Their Creative Director thought I’d fit in pretty well here and so after a few brief meetings and a few months of freelancing I was offered a full time role!
What have been some of your highlights and greatest achievements at STANDBY so far?
My first year at STANDBY has been a crazy rollercoaster, to say the least. I’ve travelled all across the UK, flown abroad for shoots and learnt a lot of new skills in the editing suite.
I think my greatest achievement is probably how far I’ve advanced using After Effects – the one part of Adobe Suite I was probably weakest at!
Do you have any favourite projects you’ve worked on this past year?
The best thing about STANDBY is the variety of projects that I get to work on, so it’s pretty hard to nail down only one or two that stand out. I think right now though my favourite film is Perpetual Fostering #WhoCares. I recommend giving this a watch as it was an awesome project to work on. It felt like one of those briefs you could really push to it’s limits and experiment with. I think the end result is an extremely engaging and unique take on a fostering film.
What do you look forward to in the next few years at STANDBY?
STANDBY is going from strength to strength and I feel lucky to have joined at what is a reasonably early stage in its life (we’re only just turning 6 this year!). I’m looking forward to growing with the company and adding my influence to how STANDBY develops over the coming years.
How are you finding the team?
The team at STANDBY are a great mix of people all with different skills and backgrounds. I think it’s this mix that results in us creating some of the best film content coming out of Manchester.
…Who is your favourite?
Simon has been known to bring some of his wife’s cake in now and again so I guess for now he’s my favourite?
What are some of your best memories of your first year at STANDBY?
Berlin was quite an escapade to say the least. We worked hard over the 3 day shoot but balanced it out with plenty of steins and soaking in the atmosphere of Euro 2016. It was an extremely fun trip and I’d definitely go again.
