‘Filmed Up’ is a quarterly event at HOME in Manchester, showcasing the very best short film work from the North West of England. With each film selected from an open submission of entries (of any genre, under 20 minutes in length) it’s a great chance for filmmakers to meet one another and showcase their work.
Over the last several months, our directors have been collaborating on a short film called ‘BRAKE’, in which we hear a relationship play out through a series of voicemails and slightly cryptic visuals. Originally conceived as a showreel piece for our lead actor and good friend Matt Kyle (of MK Films), the story of the film’s creation is an interesting one, with the script created in post-production, based around the visuals that we had already captured over two evenings of filming.
Having recently completed work on the film, we decided that ‘Filmed Up’ would be a great opportunity to show off STANDBY’s first official short film. We entered ‘BRAKE’ and were ultimately chosen as one of the shortlisted works, along with several other movies.
The event itself had a fantastic atmosphere and featured a number of superb films, which we were proud to be a part of. While making short films can be a long and difficult process at times, it’s great that there are events such as this to help support filmmakers in the North West. We can’t wait until we have an excuse to enter again!
