Lancashire Wildlife Trust | The Wigan Greenheart Landscape Recovery Project

Overview

The Wigan Greenheart Landscape Recovery Project is a 20 year scheme managed by our friends at the Lancashire Wildlife Trust and their partners.

Over the past 50 years, the sites of the region's decommissioned pits and coal mines have been returned to nature, creating thriving woodlands and wetlands and restoring vital habitats for species like the willow tit and bittern in the process.

This short promotional film, written from the perspective of the land itself, captures the beginning of this story, highlighting nature’s resilience in the heart of a once-industrial region.
